2020 Show Styling launched on Way Out Wedding (with 15% off!)

We’ve just launched our 2020 styling on our wonderful sponsors blog, Way Out Wedding - this is the year of Florality & Patternity! We’ve got absolutely 2020 vision now, and it’s looking chintzy, to say the least…

Every year, since 2015, we’ve put together a show styling theme, which is something of a trend prediction of styles, aesthetics and vibes we think will be big players in the coming year and beyond in weddings. With reference to the aesthetics we’re seeing in fashion, design, interiors, graphic design, visual merchandising, we pull this all together into our campaign shoot, which we shot in July (on the hottest day of the year, please don’t remind us. The smell of steamed mushrooms will forever haunt us.)

This year’s theme, as seen in the campaign shoot, is FLORALITY AND PATTERNITY.

This means a return to maximalism, pattern clashes, decorativeness and chintz. It’s full, it’s plush, it’s soft, romantic and fancy, and it’s a little theatrical and camp. We’re talking bows, roses, piping, layering, frills and ticking stripes. And that applies to the décor as well as fashion!

“Textures and textiles loom large - it’s ‘90s Laura Ashley meets A Room With a View Edwardiana, meets Cecil Beaton’s hand drawn lettering and illustrations, but updated with a cool vibe for 2020 that involves more of a shimmering, shiny, pearly finish in places, and we are here for it.

We know, it’s a lot - but that’s the vibe! It may sound a little fuddy-duddy, but of course we’ll put our Most Curious 2020 spin on it, so DON’T PANIC.

We’ve also been visiting the William Morris Gallery for Arts and Crafts chintz inspiration, as well as Tate Britain for those classical vibes seen in alabaster statues and Pre-Raphaelite paintings. And we are, of course, as we are every year and forever and ever more, inspired by Tim Walker and his slightly surreal and off-key, off-kilter take on florals, pattern and colour, and even more so after visiting the Wonderful Things exhibition at the V&A Museum, too. It’s been fun embracing a return to an artful attitude after a few years of pared back minimalism.

So, expect to see some rather full-on installations - modesty and austerity will not be a styling theme at Most Curious 2020! Our main installations are the entrance space, the catwalk, and the selfie wall, but look out for show-stopping moments all over the place, including in the catwalk shows.

We also invite our exhibitors to get on board with the theme as an option, if they would like, so it’s a joy to see a synergy around the room of the theme being represented, and also how it is individually interpreted by different creatives and in a way that’s relevant to their brand.

Over the next few weeks we’ll also reveal on Way Out Wedding more details on what these installations will involve, and who is creating them with us! Lots of exciting names and ideas being firmed up, as we speak - it’s such a strong look this time, and we really can’t wait!

Thanks so much to Way Out Wedding for launching our brand new styling concept - and remember to enter the exclusive code WOWCURIOUS at the checkout to get 15% off! The discount is on til Sunday…
