We know how much so many people are hurting right now with the tough Covid19 restrictions on weddings. We know. It’s a cruel twist of fate that a year you were excited about, a year that was about celebrating you and your love with your nearest and dearest has now become a source of pain, sadness and stress. There is so much to be discussed around the topic and we will be putting a few more articles out there based around this moment of postponements and uncertainty in the world of weddings. BUT today, to kick that off, we wanted to share this beautiful wedding with you, shot by the wonderful Laura Babb, to show you can down scale and STILL have the joy, have the style, cute details, the twinkles AND the love in your own back yard.

This wedding was first featured on Laura’s own blog and quotes are borrowed from their too - thanks to Laura, Alison and Elizabeth!

Architects Alison and Elizabeth’s wedding was actually before the Corona outbreak (see they actually CHOSE to have boutique affair!) and compromised of a mini ceremony with a big party afterwards, at their South London home. ‘We searched for South London’s smallest registered venue. It happened to be this amazing bandstand in Myatt’s Fields Park, a community-run garden between Camberwell and Brixton, in London,’ explains Alison.

“Our favourite part of the ceremony was walking down the long tree-lined avenue in the park, which became our makeshift aisle. It was really amazing to have a quiet few moments for reflection. As we walked up we could hear Elizabeth’s brother David playing First Day of My Life by Bright Eyes on his guitar. All of our family and best friends looked amazing and happy.

For readings, we had a personal welcome from Elizabeth’s brother Michael, ‘Scaffolding’ by Seamus Heaney and ‘I Like You’ by Sandol Stoddard. We really liked the sentiment of each. Obviously ‘Scaffolding’ was a difficult reading for two architects to resist!”

“We are really into gardening and love big bright flowers. We didn’t have to add much decoration to our garden for the party, but we found Charley at the London Flower House to do the flowers. Charlie was brilliant and was able to bring all the same colours into our floral arrangements. It all came together really nicely. We kept other decorations to a minimum so the flowers decorating the bandstand and the marquee really stood out.”

‘Having a big party in our house meant we could have everything just as we wanted it, and there was something really lovely about welcoming all of our friends, family and neighbours into our home.’
