Smashing the glass + the dancefloor: Wedding Smashers

Now that you can step 5 feet outside of the door without hearing Mariah Carey (and this is not me bashing her: the first song on my alternative Christmas playlist entitled "When you're bored of Mariah" is, in fact, Mariah, because you can never get bored of her), we thought it was the perfect time to introduce you to the second of our sponsors, the inimitable DJ company WEDDING SMASHERS. Borne from a mutual love of a bloody good tune and a bloody good time, they're here to save you from the Disco Daves and Krazy Kevins we know only too well from Love Actually-esque nuptials. With the rest of weddings being so super stylish nowadays, it's only fair that the music you play reflects that too. Let your entertainment match the joyous magnitude of your big day, why don't ya!

We asked one third of Wedding Smashers, Max, what it was like to be part of the coolest people on the scene, and why they're one not to miss in March.

Describe the type of couple you are hoping to meet at Most Curious?

We're looking to meet fun and relaxed couples who love to P-A-R-T-Y. They don't have to be muse-o's but it certainly makes our life easier when couples aren't afraid to shake there stuff on the d-floor.

What do you think the most Curious couples will love about your work?

Hopefully they'll enjoy the way we play the tunes and the way our snazzy DJ Booth looks.

Why did you decide to set up your own business?

About 10 years ago, myself (Max) and my friends Lucy & Noah used to DJ together at parties and festivals and things and one time, a couple at a party approached us and asked if we'd play at their wedding. We said yes but had never played a wedding before and hadn't even been to one (!) but their reception was a total SMASH and we had the lightbulb moment, joking about starting a business. It wasn't until we got another few wedding bookings that we realised that there might be a need for what we were bringing to the table. 1000+ weddings later and we're still bringing it!

What's been the coolest/best moment of your career so far?

I think DJing abroad often provides a special buzz and we've been lucky enough to go to some wonderful places on this Wedding Smashers journey. If we had to choose one gig it would be playing on an island off the coast of Fiji, that was ridiculous!

Who or what inspires you?

There are tons of DJs that inspire us from legends like Jazzy Jeff, Mixmaster Mike, DJ EZ, 2manyDJs etc to guys like Jackmaster and Diplo today. Technology within the DJ world is also inspiring and keeps us on our toes.

Who is your fave famous wedding from history and why?

That's a tricky one, not too sure about the past but we're certainly hyped about Prince Harry & Meghan Markle's!

What do you love most about your job?

Providing a good music service is like the cherry on the top for our couples and it's great to see the joy it brings at the end of a most joyous occasion. We also love it when we bump into people we've played for in the past at weddings, it's always a wonderful and unexpected surprise.

If you want to catch the Wedding Smashers spinning some seriously good tunes then join us at our London Show, at the Old Truman Brewery from 2-4 March 2018 - tickets available here - we'll be partying all weekend long!
