Make Your Own Wedding Rings Workshop - Introducing The Quarterworkshop

Jess and Jake make each other’s wedding rings with Victoria at The Quarterworkshop after winning a workshop at Most Curious Norwich. The lovely music is Coucou-anne by Musette Filmed by Jack Adams

Wedding ring shopping can be super stressful - there’s a lot of pressure riding on that ol’ ruby ring finger, not to mention the traditions and symbolism it carries*. That’s why we love The Quarterworkshop’s make your own wedding ring workshop, where you get to make your own beautiful wedding bands from scratch under the lovely and knowledgeable care of Victoria. You come out with totally unique rings that perfectly encapsulate your love story, whilst also having a great day celebrating your love - literally what is not to love??

*and if you wanna talk about commitment, Victoria’s your gal - she battled literal 5 foot snowdrifts (we have photos) to come from Birmingham to the 2018 show in the Beast from the East!

A little about your business and you

The Quarterworkshop is a jewellery and goldsmithing studio set within a historic building in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. Our wedding ring making workshops give couples the chance to hand make their own totally bespoke wedding rings for each other.

I trained as a silversmithing and goldsmith and after many years of working as a designer silversmith and jeweller decided to set up my own studio.

One of the best parts of my job has always being letting people into the secret world of goldsmithing and helping them to create something special themselves. Jewellery has always been a precious symbol of meaning and sentiment and a wedding ring even more so, literally symbolising the connection between two people.

And what better way to add even more meaning to that ring than seeing the person you love hand make that band for you? So, the idea for the workshop developed from there - and when we found our beautiful studio nestled within a historic building, it was the perfect place to set up the workshop and create a space to share with others to escape to.

The coolest/best moment of your career so far

Wow that’s a difficult one, there are so many cool little moments when running your own business. I have been amazed how far people have travelled to come and make their rings with us, we recently had a couple travel all the way from Texas to come and make their silver wedding anniversary rings!

Who or what inspires you

I am also always inspired by other creatives there are so many people out there creating amazing work. Having an art and design background I am also always visiting exhibitions and galleries and events.

What do you love most about your job?

One of the best things is meeting so many different people and helping them to create something so special themselves.

Overall, I think it is the way in which we can help create so much more meaning to the wedding bands and provide a great experience, it is also a bit of the wedding planning which is just for the couple and can be lovely pre-wedding romantic escape for a weekend. Its great seeing how happy and proud our couples are at the end of the day when they are holding the rings they have made themselves.

“Taking part in a workshop to make our own wedding rings truly was the most magical day! My fiancée and I were blown away by the whole experience. It was a fascinating process and I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to make our own wedding rings. We can’t recommend this enough, a truly brilliant day and by far the most exciting part of planning our wedding so far. Thank you The Quarterworkshop!!”

What's the most curious thing about your business?

Our workshop is actually within an old Coffin Factory! It’s not as scary as it sounds but a gorgeous historical building walking distance from everything the city has to offer with beautiful windows. we love it!

What's your top advice for couples getting married?

Just to enjoy it as much as you can, its true it really does go so fast! And make sure you get to eat all the food! (I missed this bit at my own wedding talking too much to my guests!)

Whether your mind’s bubbling over with ideas already or you want to discuss the very basics, Victoria will be exhibiting at our 2019 fair so grab your tickets to come and chat!
