The Curtain East London Wedding Venue1.jpg

Having a wedding by a rooftop pool in London may seem like an actual distant fantasy - or having your celebrations in a Studio 54 themed nightclub. You think of it, you smile at how good it’d be, you shrug and continue the hunt for somewhere slightly less fantastic. But fear not - The Curtain, a new hotel and member’s club in the heart of Shoreditch, have both of these things ON TOP of a marvellous 350-capacity ballroom, covering every single one of your wedding dreams and more. So just to recap - central East London location - tick, rooftop pool with LA feel - tick, uber stylish ballroom - tick, exclusive Studio 54 themed nightclub - tick - and a super lovely and friendly events team? Tick. Tick. Bloody. Tick.

A little about your business and you

The Curtain is a new(ish) hotel and members’ club right in the heart of Shoreditch. It has 120 rooms and suites, plus restaurants, bars and some spectacular events spaces – we’ve got a split-level courtyard with a retractable roof and a big tree in the middle which is amazing for smaller events, a freshly-refurbished ballroom which can take 350 for a standing reception and has one of East London’s best sound systems, plus we’ve got a Studio 54-style nightclub and a rooftop space with a swimming pool which the roof comes off in summer! I’m Will, Head of Events here at The Curtain, I am energetic and I honestly care deeply about every event I organise with my amazing team. I love making a couple’s vision come to life, and I’m a real perfectionist and a safe pair of hands for weddings of any size and scale!

The coolest/best moment of your career so far

The most spectacular was managing a quarter-million-pound wedding for 300 guests in a client’s house in Essex. It was for a gorgeous couple of mixed heritage, meaning they had a Hindu wedding on Friday followed by a traditional British wedding on Saturday and a breakfast on Sunday. It was a festival themed weeding with posh tipis in the garden for guests staying over, a full funfair and a stage with an incredible line-up. Helicopter rides on Sunday morning were a special treat to close the weekend.

Who or what inspires you:

It’s pretty simple: great minds, creative individuals, nice people.

What do you love most about your job?

Making people happy, making ideas come together, transforming spaces into magical sets but most importantly making memories

What's the most curious thing about your business?

The versatility of every single event space, including our amazing bedrooms and suites.

What's your top advice for couples getting married?

Choose the venue first and then start to pick everything else (sorry, but I’m including the dress in this)! Most venues will have a huge number of suppliers who are familiar with the space and that will help you save a huge amount of time and energy. In the scheme of your day, entertainment for the party is just as important a food so allocate a sensible proportion of your budget here, don’t let it be an afterthought. Be careful not to get too stuck on trends, because they change, just work out what is right for you and for your partner – and that includes the budget! This is about a life together, not a single day, so be realistic and spend what you can but don’t get yourself into a hole – this is a day you want to remember for all the right reasons!

If you’ve fallen in love with The Curtain like we’ve fallen in love with The Curtain, make sure you come and see their fabulous events team at our uber cool wedding fair in Shoreditch from the 1st to the 3rd March, 2019. Tickets are available now!
